English Global education time: an international network of schools learning and acting for sustainable development goals
CISP is among the participants in the 6th edition of SFIDE – the school for everyone, the event organized by Terre di Mezzo Editore in collaboration with the Educational Cooperation Movement and Erickson within Do the right thing!, the national fair of critical consumption and sustainable lifestyles in Milan, from 24 to 26 March 2023.
Sunday 26 March from 16:00 to 17:30 CISP proposes the workshop: HUMANS IN MOVEMENT. A proposal for a global history of migrations, aimed in particular at lower secondary school teachers.
Migrations are an essential feature of human existence and are the basis of the interconnections of the world we live in. The world as we know it today was built through the movements of women and men, which happened both in ancient times and in recent times. Those movements are at the root of the constant evolutions of our global societies.
This didactic workshop aims to introduce teachers to the use of resources to include the subject of migrations into the curriculum, with a didactic and historiographical approach suitable for grasping the planetary dimension and the connections of past and present phenomena, in the perspective of global citizenship education and a less Eurocentric historical narrative. We will use a number of teaching tools, including a series of geo-historical maps, a useful and interactive tool to accompany students to learn about the global history of migrations and to acquire a sense of co-responsibility for sustainable development and for global challenges.
The workshop is part of a broader project which has the aim, within the context of international educational programs, of supporting and preparing the didactic experimentation of global citizenship education paths, bringing some transversal themes of the 2030 Agenda (including migrations) in school curricula and teaching approaces. With this in mind, CISP has produced a Geo-history Textbook, A global history of humanity, in 12 languages and downloadable for free, accompanied by a user guide for teachers.
Educational resources of this type can help enhance diversity in the classroom, promote well-being and inclusion in school starting from teaching innovation, contributing to that change of mentality needed to fully implement the principles of the 2030 Agenda.
