why

Profound inequalities and discriminations between individuals and between groups create conditions of exclusion that risk becoming irremediable, which undermines the foundations for peaceful coexistence based on equity and social justice.
The upholding of these rights through direct and decisive action is fundamental for the establishment of more balanced and just societies.
In a world increasingly marked by crises and emergencies, ensuring the protection of populations is the central objective of humanitarian action. Promoting the right to assistance and saving lives in situations of conflict or natural disasters is a way of guaranteeing the defence and promotion of the psychophysical integrity of the person and the community.
In the case of migration, ensuring protection and rights reduces the human and social costs and the real humanitarian tragedies often associated with irregular flows.

AGENDA 2030

Conflict, economic, gender, ethnic and religious discriminations contribute to political instability and healthcare, food and social emergencies and prevent peaceful coexistence and accessible rights for all.
In 2019, nearly 80 million people left their countries to flee persecution, environmental disasters, wars, and conflicts.
Every day, large numbers of civilians, including women and children, are killed in armed conflicts, despite their protection under international law.
The 2030 Agenda addresses these issues through Goals 5, 10 and 16, among others.
Inclusion of humanitarian action in the 2030 Agenda means guaranteeing its principles, ensuring coherence and effectiveness in responding to the dramatic increase in the need for assistance.

WHAT WE DO

We promote the empowerment of less protected groups to assert their rights by extending their access to services and resources.

We claim denied rights and safeguard the integrity and dignity of individuals, groups and communities through prevention and protection measures/actions.

We strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations to represent the interests of the least protected sections of the population.

We assist migrant, internally displaced people, and refugee populations and communities affected by humanitarian emergencies, natural disasters and food crises generated or exacerbated by climate change.

We improve housing conditions, provide protection, and distribute basic necessities to the most vulnerable groups or those at risk of marginalisation, indigenous peoples, and people with disabilities.

We assist women victims of violence and people who are victims of physical and/or psychological abuse.

We inform and raise public awareness about the reality of migration to fight racism, xenophobia and social exclusion; we help to create and promote cultural models of welcome and hospitality; we promote durable solutions for integration; we protect the most vulnerable groups, women, and children, from exploitation and slavery.

We combat human trafficking, with a special focus on women and children, and support family and community inclusion processes for unaccompanied, orphaned, and unprotected children.

OUR APPROACH

Working alongside civil society actors, we promote the rights of marginalised populations, fostering integration, gender equality, awareness of their rights, self-determination, and stability.
We also work alongside public administrations to foster social cohesion, contributing to the improvement of basic services in terms of coverage, equity, and accessibility, supporting the development of the communities and territories they inhabit.
We encourage processes of change in social norms that often justify and foster violence and discrimination through advocacy processes for the social and economic empowerment of women and women's associations.
In emergency situations, we promote interventions based on the principles of humanitarian action and respect for the principle of non-violence, i.e., ensuring that in conflict situations the aid does not generate tensions and additional risks for the population and we orient our assistance exclusively on the level of need. We promote the empowerment of the beneficiaries in the definition and management of programmes to prevent the risk of distortions in the use of aid and the syndrome of external dependence. We make every effort to facilitate the transition to the rehabilitation phase by strengthening the social, institutional, and economic framework in areas affected by humanitarian emergencies.

Sahrawi Refugee Camps

It is participation, challenge and fun, it is a moment to be taken lightheartedly in an otherwise difficult life, it is the encounter with the other, it is the effort of the body and the flight of the mind, it is becoming a team, it is respecting the rules.
Is it just a ball game?

Girls who live as children can study, play and learn to relate to others. These are protected girls who, united in an embrace that is care, affection and intimacy, have also learned to protect each other.

Venezuela

They are called POBLACIÓN CAMINANTE (people on the move), and are the Venezuelan migrants who, due to the complex political and socio-economic context of the country, seek refuge elsewhere, trying to reach the inland areas of Colombia, Ecuador or Peru. They walk because they are the most fragile of all, those who cannot even afford a bus. Today, once more, we are at their side.
