In Palestine, the protracted humanitarian and political crisis has had a profound impact on human rights, also in terms of access to health services and clean water.
As part of our efforts to address this issue is our latest project in the area: RIGHTS – Protection and Human Rights for the Palestinian communities in Area C (West Bank); Health, Water and Hygiene, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by CISP together with Cesvi Foundation and the Palestinian Juzoor for Health and social Development.
Started in March 2022 and closed in June 2023, the project improved the well-being of vulnerable Palestinian communities in the Hebron Governorate.
Through a multi-sectoral approach, including WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), health, and protection, the project addressed the rights of the affected population through the direct involvement of local communities to enhance behavioural change and create sustainable improvements in health and water-related issues.
The impact
- Improved access to safe water
Installation of Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS) units, and hand washing stations. Improvement and extension of the community water network.
- Improved prevention and response practices for health and hygiene risks
The project enhanced behavioral change implementing awareness campaigns on proper water use and hygiene practices and offering training sessions and workshops on Health and Hygiene practices, with a particular focus on women in reproductive age and adolescents. Hygiene kits have been also distributed among community members.
- Improved quality of primary health services and safe water availability in health center facilities
Purchase and installation of medical equipment and materials in Health Center Facilities. Installation of handwashing units. Trainings for healthcare professionals.
