Twenty-five participants, twelve organisations from eight European countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, and Spain), three days of work: these are the numbers of the international meeting organised in Rome by CISP from March 6th to 8th, 2024, to kick off the activities of GET, It's Global Education Time. From School curricula to youth actions for Sustainable Development.
Co-financed by the European Union through the DEAR program, the GET project aims to deepen and continue the work started with the previous Get Up and Goals! by bringing Global Citizenship Education (GCE) and the 2030 Agenda into schools through a series of tools, materials, and initiatives that enable enhancement of European school curricula and a more critical and in-depth understanding of four crucial issues: global inequalities, climate change, gender inequalities, and migration.
A three-day event to launch the activities
How to best plan the many activities foreseen by the project? How to involve teachers in the initiative? How to build a meaningful path with the collaboration of local and international school authorities? How to create a strong connection with students and young activists? How to work in a collaborative atmosphere among all stakeholders so that everyone can learn from each other and contribute to the implementation of the principles of the 2030 Agenda? These are the questions at the heart of the GET project kick-off event.
Through a series of workshops, in-depth sessions, and team-building moments, participants had the opportunity to get to know each other, understand each other's strengths, and begin planning the next three and a half years of work, both at the local and European levels.
Among the activities foreseen by the GET project there are training courses dedicated to teachers of primary and secondary schools, production of innovative educational materials that inspire critical and active participation, involvement of young people and students in citizenship actions, opportunities for international exchange among different actors, and a commitment to collaboration with the school authorities of the countries involved so that GCE becomes a cornerstone of European education programs and, finally, a model not only for studying but also and above all for understanding, addressing, and living in contemporary times.
As Director Sandro De Luca emphasised at the opening of the event: "I want to stress how important global identity as humankind is. This is why CISP works on European projects like this one. The idea of a global identity, one that we share, is crucial to build peaceful societies and to address the challenges of our world”.
So, best of luck to everyone!
