in farming communities in Manica Province, Mozambique
Description
The project improves the tools available to the rural population by promoting the adoption of climate change resilient agricultural techniques and practices, and strengthens risk prevention and management tools and strategies at provincial level.
It involves about 1500 individuals (50% women), farmers and their families from the rural areas of Barué, Gondola, Manica and Sussundenga districts.
Specifically, the project:
Provides basicproduction tools and resources (improved seeds, cuttings, legumes, equipment, etc.) to particularly vulnerable farmers to meet their immediate needs in terms of production for self-consumption.
Distributes small livestock to farmers and their families, with a view to diversifying livelihoods and improving food security.
Introduces improved agricultural practices through a training series for Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) that can support local communities in implementing climate resilient agricultural practices, while at the same time improving agricultural production and food availability in addition to protecting key natural resources, such as water and food.
Carry out community-based interventions to rehabilitate land or build small infrastructure (food storage warehouses, rainwater harvesting systems, small irrigation systems, etc.).
In collaboration with the National Institute for Disaster Management and Local Risk Management Committees works to improve natural disaster warning and management tools.
