Alliances and Sisterhood of defenders of women's rights in Mali and Algeria

Description

The project is part of the promotion and protection of human rights and more specifically of human rights defenders of women's rights in Algeria and Mali.

Built on a participatory and network modality, the project contributes to actively support an effective and efficient protection and defence of women's rights in order to promote the recognition of the status of human rights defenders and to promote women's rights.

In cooperation with local multi-sectoral actors, the project supports a gender equality approach by preventing discriminatory behaviour.

OBJECTIVES

To support the protection of women human rights defenders and organisations working for women's rights in Algeria and Mali, and more specifically to strengthen women's rights in the two countries by increasing the knowledge and skills of human rights defenders and developing the membership of new women's rights actors within civil society.

Support for the protection of human rights defenders
Training for care and treatment professionals in cooperation with civil society organisations in therapeutic networking
Self-defence of women's collectives
Strengthening of CSOs on gender issues
Gender media training
Advocacy for the recognition of the status of human rights defenders
Awareness-raising within civil society organisations and universities
Organisation and broadcasting of radio programmes on community and national radio stations
Organisation of cascade grants
Organisation and management of round tables on Islam/modernity

Output and results

Mechanisms and tools for the protection of women's rights defenders implemented and made operational

Approximately 200 women in distress received shelter as well as legal and psychological assistance services

Skills of human rights defenders and civil society actors strengthened in terms of women's rights

More than 75 persons trained on women's rights issues
At least 5 advocacy tools produced, published and distributed (over 5,000 copies)

Multi-sectoral actors sensitized on issues of discrimination against women, supporting human rights defenders in their advocacy for women's rights

More than 50 awareness-raising events on gender issues (2,000,000 people reached)
16 micro awareness-raising projects on women's rights in Mali implemented by women's associations and women's groups
