The project contributes to increasing local and sustainable development opportunities for artisanal fishermen and shellfish gatherers from eight municipalities in the cantons of San Lorenzo and Eloy Alfaro, Esmeraldas province, northern border of Ecuador.

The actions of the project are aimed at improving the community organisation for the governance and sustainability of the artisanal shellfish sector at territorial level. 

In addition, the project aims to improve the efficiency of fishing-harvesting activities and the quality of the products of this sector in order to achieve greater profitability and less impact on overexploited and degraded natural resources.

This capitalisation project addresses the crucial role of the tourism sector in the Mediterranean by developing and promoting sustainable tourism products, which is considered to be a crucial tool for the socio-economic development of the region, for social inclusion and job creation in the most disadvantaged areas of the Mediterranean.

Restart Med! widens the horizon of tourism in lesser-known destinations with a special focus on small/medium-sized enterprises and local communities as well as on particular sectors such as adventure tourism, slow tourism, gamification, gastronomy, cultural heritage, etc.

Restart Med! supports tourism operators and encourages them to work together with civil society organisations to not only overcome the pandemic, but to also create more resilient communities, more sustainable products and policies, and to welcome responsible tourists to lesser-known destinations.
